VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — David King is a Los Angeles-based artist who created wearable artwork for ABC7’s Feed SoCal food drive.

“I can’t think of another career path that would give me so much satisfaction,” King said.

“Before I was an artist, I was studying psychology, so I’m very curious about the human experience. I really try to incorporate my training in psychology with symbolic messages to share with humanity.”

“I feel like I could reach more people that way, instead of working with people individually or by becoming a psychologist or a life coach. An artist, I think, is just a really good observer.”

King described her Feed SoCal T-Shirt pattern. “This piece is two images hugging each other. One in white and one in black. And often when people see that, their initial interpretation is going to be racial.”

“Although it’s a beautiful message, and it’s the first layer of that message, my work is multi-dimensional.”

ABC7 has partnered with South Central Smile to identify muralists willing to donate their time to create t-shirt designs in support of our 11th annual Feed SoCal food drive.

She continued, “Before people can come together in the world, we must have peace within ourselves.”

“It’s our light that embraces our shadow. And our shadow is the part of ourselves that we suppress, that we hide, that we deny, that we pretend not to exist.”

“Our light is how we heal. It’s the embodiment of that balance… shining a light in our shadow so we can see what’s there, so it can help us transform a weakness in strength one way or another.”

“Once we start giving it some attention, it becomes more balanced in our lives. When I hear that ‘I’m inspired’ comment, then I know I’ve done my job.”

“I’m grateful for having the courage to do what I do. To then spread the energy of inspiration to others.”

“I choose to invite others to join me and spread more of a vibration of love on the planet as we go through all of these changes together.”

ABC7 will donate 100% of proceeds from the sale of the exclusive Davia King-designed t-shirt to support our 11th annual Feed SoCal campaign.

Morgantown, West Virginia – Highlighting the approximately 75 miles from Morgantown to Pittsburgh, West Virginia football will wear a special Country Roads Nike uniform, when the Mountaineers and Pitt Panthers renew the “Backyard Brawl” on Thursday, September 1 at Heinz Field.

For the 105th edition of the “Backyard Brawl”, West Virginia’s road uniform will consist of a white helmet, jersey and set of pants trimmed in gold and blue. The background of blue stripes on the pants, jersey sleeves, numbers and helmet features a road map of Interstate 79 and the various country roads of the state of West Virginia.

Aside from the background print on the uniform, the wider gold and blue stripes on the pants resemble the centerline markings found on the roads fans use to get to Mountaineer games.

The Mountaineers helmet will feature the flying WV placed within the West Virginia State outline, and the same logo will appear on the pants and jersey. The words Cue Country Roads circle the neck on the inside of the jersey as a tribute to one of the greatest traditions in college athletics.

The WVU uniforms are a special Nike edition of a game to help celebrate the renewal of the “Backyard Brawl” which has not been played in 11 years. The white road uniform was designed in-house by WVU Athletics in conjunction with the school’s Nike representatives. Besides the closeness between the two schools, the uniform design theme focused on mountaineers and their fans who can always find a country road to take them home.

“The football series with Pitt is one of the oldest and best rivalries in college football, and there was great sportsmanship and camaraderie between the two schools to put this game back on the schedule,” the manager said. of WVU sports. Shane Lyons said. “The game is a win for both schools, and we’ve taken the opportunity to showcase the revival with a special uniform that not only showcases the back roads of West Virginia, but the closeness between the two universities connected by the ‘Interstate 79.’

Pitt leads the overall series 61-40-3, but West Virginia has won 16 of the last 26 games against the Panthers. The two teams met every season from 1943 to 2011, and for the past 47 years WVU has posted a 25-20-2 mark. When the famous rivalry was cut short in 2011 due to conference realignment, West Virginia went on a three-game winning streak against the Panthers.

“It will be great for our players to wear this special edition Country Roads uniform and experience the rivalry with Pitt,” the WVU coach said. Neal Brown said. “This game is good for college football, and I know our players and coaches can’t wait to visit Heinz Field and repeat this historic game.”

West Virginia’s home season begins Saturday, Sept. 10 against Big 12 Conference foes Kansas. Season tickets are priced at $365, a $30 savings off the single game price, and can be purchased at www.WVUGame.com. Aside from Kansas, the home roster includes matchups against defending Big 12 champion Baylor, Oklahoma, TCU, Kansas State and non-conference opponent Towson.

A preview of what’s happening around the majors on Sunday:

The nation’s new federal holiday is being celebrated in multiple ways this weekend at Major League Baseball parks.

political cartoons

The first 10,000 fans to attend the Angels-Mariners game at T-Mobile Park will receive a replica hat from the 1946 Seattle Steelheads, a black league team. The Mariners wore Steelheads jerseys Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.

Fans who purchase tickets to the St. Louis-Boston game at Fenway Park through a special offer were to receive a Red Sox jersey in Juneteenth colors with the Juneteenth flag.

At PNC Park, Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, who is black, threw out the first pitch Saturday before the Pirates hosted the Giants.

June 19 commemorates the date when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the slaves of Galveston, Texas. The proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, and declared all slaves in the Confederate States free. Some of the newly released were unaware of their freedom until U.S. Major General Gordon Granger reached Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, to enforce the proclamation.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone will have his family on his mind — and on his feet — on Father’s Day in Toronto.

Boone plans to wear a special pair of shoes for the series finale against the Blue Jays. Designed by Brooklyn artist Andy Freidman, the shoes feature images of Boone’s grandfather, father and brother, all of whom also played big league baseball.

“I was like ‘How about making this a family theme for me? with my family in baseball and incorporate my kids into it,” Boone said. “He took it from there and created this and it’s pretty cool.”

The design also incorporates images of Boone’s own children.

The White Sox and Astros are playing the rubber game of a three-game set — and it’s also a major game for managers Tony La Russa and Dusty Baker.

The longtime skippers are 105-105 against each other in regular season games since their first showdown in 1996. Chicago is also set to host Houston for four games in August, but with La Russa, 77, possibly on the hot seat for struggling Chicago, this could be his last game with the 73-year-old Baker.

The Yankees are on the verge of their second 10-game winning streak this season as they send Gerrit Cole to the mound against Toronto. New York has won nine straight and 16 of 17, closing in on its season high of 11 straight wins set from April 22 to May 3.

Cole (6-1, 3.33) pitched six innings in a 2-0 win over Tampa Bay in his previous start. He will face Blue Jays southpaw Yusei Kikuchi (2-3, 4.80).

Cleveland ace Shane Bieber, a native of Southern California, pitches at Dodger Stadium for the first time after a three-game series.

Bieber grew up an hour south of Chavez Ravine in Laguna Hills and attended Cal-Santa Barbara. He said he only attended a few Dodgers games growing up.

“I’ve heard a lot about the atmosphere. I know the story,” said 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner Bieber. “I’m excited to experience it firsthand and add it to my resume.”

Bieber (3-3, 3.01 ERA) is part of a booming guarding team that has won five straight and 14 of its last 17 heading into Saturday.

Cleveland third baseman José Ramírez did not start Saturday’s game due to right thumb pain. He will have it checked again before the series finale. He leads the American League with 62 RBIs.

Seattle right-hander Logan Gilbert has a chance to join the major league leaders with eight wins over Mike Trout and the visiting Angels.

Gilbert (7-2) has won three straight decisions, including his last outing against Minnesota when he pitched six shutout innings.

In his last four starts, Gilbert has a 1.44 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 25 innings. In his 13 starts, he allowed more than three earned runs just once and pitched at least five innings in each start.

The 25-year-old is in his second full season and was the AL Pitcher of the Month for April.

SINGAPORE — When Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a speech to an audience of 500 at the Shangri-La dialogue on Saturday June 11, soliciting support to end the war in his country, he didn’t start with pictures bloodshed or razed battlefields.

Instead, he began his special address to delegates – among them ministers and senior defense officials from around 40 countries – by talking about the T-shirt he was wearing, which bears an NFT image (token not expendable) designed by “a girl in Singapore”.

It shows a girl spray-painting the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag.

Speaking via live stream from a secret location in Kyiv, Ukraine, Mr Zelenskyy said the girl had written him a letter asking for his help in raising awareness for an initiative she called “Spray Paint Ukraine”, which aims to raise funds for the country recently invaded by Russia.

“It is a request of this girl for her idea, her confidence that the Ukrainian president will really respond to her initiative and that I will be ready to help her is of crucial importance,” he said.

He then asked, rhetorically, if Russian President Vladimir Putin would have been so responsive and supportive if a stranger had approached him with a similar request.

“Is he just going to read the letter from the Singapore Embassy offering to support the idea of a girl he doesn’t know?” Would he wear the shirt? I think it’s impossible,” he said.

“And that is what is really happening. It is the confrontation between the possible that we, and many people around the world, need, and the impossible that Russia is fighting so desperately for,” he said. he said, before talking about the importance of maintaining a global order based on the rule of law and not leaving small nations at the mercy of big powers.

After the speech, an individual named Calvin Soh wrote on the LinkedIn networking platform that the design was done by his daughter, Ava.

“Ava did this as a wearable NFT to raise funds for Ukraine. She worked with BigBeyond for the NFT and the T-shirt. So it’s a project made in SG,” he said.

According to a website he linked to in the post, the fundraiser will be via a limited drop of 1,000 NFTs along with a free t-shirt. The T-shirt with the same image can also be purchased separately, with proceeds going to the Ukrainian Embassy in Singapore.

“I believe there is a human generation that wants to help and NFTs can amplify that. And perhaps this is how we can demonstrate the true power of decentralized good,” reads a post on the Daughters of the Revolution (DOTR) website.

A separate article states that DOTR was founded by Ava when she was 14 years old.

TODAY has reached out to Mr. Soh and DOTR for comment.

Bale eclipses Charles, Giggs and Rush as the best player in a Wales shirt | 2022 World Cup qualifiers https://officialpenguinssite.com/bale-eclipses-charles-giggs-and-rush-as-the-best-player-in-a-wales-shirt-2022-world-cup-qualifiers/ Sun, 05 Jun 2022 21:27:00 +0000 https://officialpenguinssite.com/bale-eclipses-charles-giggs-and-rush-as-the-best-player-in-a-wales-shirt-2022-world-cup-qualifiers/ IIt was Gareth Bale. IIt was Gareth Bale. If it was Wales, it would still be Bale. He may have played just 22 minutes of football in the 10 weeks since the playoff semi-final win over Austria; he may not be able to last a full game; he may indeed have become a former Real Madrid player; but he is still the player who makes Wales more than just a mid-table team.

There will be those with their subjective preferences for John Charles or Ryan Giggs, Ivor Allchurch or Ian Rush, but what can be said now is that no one has ever achieved more in a Wales shirt. . It’s not just that he inspired them to reach the European Championship semi-finals and secure their first World Cup qualification in 64 years. It is that he achieved these exploits six years apart. There are leftovers, but it’s obviously a different side to Chris Coleman and Bale was key for both.

When Bale lined up a free-kick 11 minutes before half-time, things inevitably returned to the free-kick he swept in the same goal against Austria in March. This time, on the other side of the field, Bale stood on the tee and assessed the conditions: 25 yards, light breeze from left to right, heavy rain. He picked his club, took a look at the target and the wall that stood in the way, performed his pre-shot routine, gathered his momentum and then celebrated Andriy Yarmolenko’s dive who deflected the ball in front of his own goalkeeper – which, admittedly, rarely happens in golf.

Bale is a player these days who stars in snippets. He doesn’t dominate games like he used to. He’s 32, and while his lack of regular football could possibly prolong his career – if he so chooses – it also means a lack of basic match fitness. Yet somehow the game still revolves around him, as if Bale’s idea was enough to exert a gravitational pull. And every once in a while, he’ll snatch a ball through the air with an outstretched foot or discover an angle no one else has seen to renew the strength of that idea.

But it wasn’t all about Bale. It was also about the athleticism of Wayne Hennessey and his handling in the rain, the diligence of Neco Williams at left-back, Joe Allen and Dan James relentlessly rushing through midfield and a dozen bodies thrown in the path of the shots.

And it was also about singing. What an asset does Wales have in its choral tradition. As soon as things get tense, they can just flip through the hymnal and start singing something soulful and melodic, an inspiration for those on the pitch and a distraction for those who aren’t. And that is perhaps part of what makes Welsh football so enjoyable right now, for fans and players alike. There’s a feeling of unity, of climbing new heights together, which is extremely exciting.

As before the victory against Austria in the semi-finals of the Wales playoffs, Dafydd Iwan, the grandson of one of the founders of Plaid Cymru, interpreted Yma o Hyd (“Still Here”). His song is about the defiant spirit of Welsh identity and how it remains strong even after nearly half a millennium of union with England. But Ukrainian fans too may have found resonance in his words: “We are still here, despite everything and everyone.”

And there, we come up directly against the awkwardness of the occasion. How can the result of a football match compare with the news about the counter-attack in Sievierodonetsk? How can these things occupy the heads and hearts of the same people at the same time? And yet they do. Football is trivial and yet it matters – as an escape, yes, but also as something more, as a symbol of, well, all it has to be.

Ukrainian fans, who seemed determined to enjoy every second of being Ukrainian in a public space, waved flags throughout Iwan’s performance; united in a common self-affirmation. Surely that’s what fans want, what football is, rather than the corporate nonsense of a Camila Cabello gig seemingly designed for those who are there less for the game and more for the show. The Ukrainian fans were called back at the final whistle, both by the Welsh players who applauded them, and by the Welsh fans who joined in their thunderclap: moving gestures that should not be forgotten.

The Fiver: Sign up and receive our daily football email.

Popular sentiment may have been behind Ukraine, but that shouldn’t detract from the Welsh cheer. They waited a long time for this. They endured Joe Jordan’s handball, Davie Cooper’s penalty, Paul Bodin’s miss.

That these moments feel like obstacles that have been overcome rather than part of an inevitable and continuing curse is a measure of what Bale and his team have achieved.

Since 2016, a graphic designer named Dan Abrams has marked every Mets victory by opening up Adobe Illustrator, creating a drawing of a key moment in the style of the minimalist neon figures that once lit up the exterior of Shea Stadium, and painting it. posting to social media. Shea has been gone since 2008, but Abrams has become the guardian of his neon glow in recent years. Now he’s embarking on his most ambitious project yet: a campaign to get the Mets to incorporate his designs, inspired by their old ballpark, into their new one. Fans are reacting to the idea: her posts about it have garnered over 5,000 likes on Twitter and Instagram, and her feeds are filled with hundreds of comments saying things like, to quote one, “This should definitely happen.” . For a certain kind of Mets fan online, Abrams quickly becomes Neon Guy.

When Shea Stadium opened in 1964, on the eve of the New York World’s Fair, its defining decorative element was an array of hundreds of blue and orange corrugated metal sheets. panels. They hung in front of the exterior ramps which made up much of the stadium’s visible shell. But those signs fell in 1980, when the baseball stadium’s exterior was painted a brighter blue, and a few years later, before the 1988 season, 90-by-60-foot neon signs The figures generic baseball poses were added to stadium windshields, part of a Mets-ification of the park that followed the Jets’ departure for Jersey. Although Shea had no idea what a classic baseball stadium was, the numbers were at least a little flourishing, and they provided a good visual cue to distinguish the Mets’ home from the rest of the eerie concrete rings built in the years 1960 and 1970. .

Abrams was first inspired to create one of these neon designs in the spring of 2016, when Mets star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes celebrated a home run with a bat flip. Neon Guy’s true origin story came later that year, however, when the Barstool Sports website used a similar design on a shirt featuring popular pitcher Bartolo Colón. Even though Abrams knew he couldn’t drop the idea of drawing ballplayers with neon accents, he then decided he wanted to be known as the Neon Guy, and so the designs kept coming – both the post-victory images and others reimagining great moments in Mets history: Jesse Orosco collapsed on the mound after closing out the World Series of 1986, where Endy Chavez stole a home run in the 2006 NLCS.

“They take me back to being a kid and going on Saturdays with my dad and my brother,” says Abrams. “Part of the reason I do them – it looks dramatic, but I don’t want to let that die. I’ve done over 500, and I’ve loved each one, because this style reminds me that I was a child who went to Shea.

For a while, the designs were a labor of love. Abrams, who has done design work for athletes, sports leagues and individual teams, briefly tried to sell shirts with his artwork years ago but ran into legal issues over copyrights. the image of the players. Earlier this year, however, he began working with website BreakingT, which holds a Major League Baseball Players Association merchandise license, allowing him to legally sell his products. t-shirts emblazoned Pete Alonso and Taijuan walker are available now. Car stickers are coming soon. Plans are also underway to sell functional two-foot-tall neon signs, starting with one of the late Mets legend Gary Carter, whose profits are from which Abrams plans to donate to a few organizations. Mets-affiliated charities. (He’s already made a Jacob deGrom neon sign for his office and plans to give each team member a personalized sign this year, both as a gesture and maybe a bit of marketing. He says that several players have either reinforced his work on social media in the past or messaged him directly to compliment him.)

Abrams believes in the neon aesthetic so much that he wants the Mets to bring some to Citi Field, and he was sure to tag owner Steve Cohen in his Tweeter on the idea. He envisions six-foot-tall neon signs depicting classic Mets moments, perhaps on the interior walls of the stadium’s main entrance, the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. And he sees the neon lights not just as a way for the Mets to give a nod to their history, but as an Instagrammable backdrop for fans.

It’s not a crazy idea. Abrams has worked with the Mets before — they’ve previously hired him to create spring training graphics for their social feeds — and the Very Online team owner is as likely as any sportsperson to listen to this. that fans are clamoring for on Twitter. Under Cohen’s ownership, the Mets brought back their annual Alumni Day and reintroduced their Piazza-era black jerseys. The neon project, which was well received on social media when Abrams announced it, seems to strike a similar chord.

Abrams says he didn’t hear about his idea from the Mets and the odds of it happening “are maybe 50-50.” I guess it’s less. Says Abrams, “I would say what bodes well for me is that Cohen wants to do things that fans love, and very fortunately for me, fans love neon.” As they all know, you have to believe it.
