Haris Rauf recalls meeting former India captain
Pakistani pace sensation Haris Rauf has shared a memorable anecdote involving legendary India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni from the 2021 T20 World Cup. India and Pakistan faced off in the group stage clash of the mega tournament ICC, where the latter ended the men in blue’s winning streak in World Cup matches. Babar Azam and co. won the match by 10 wickets.
However, after the match, Dhoni, who was traveling with the Indian team as a mentor during the tournament, met several Pakistani cricketers on the pitch. The young Pakistani cricketers had a chat with Dhoni who shared with them some insights on the game.

Rauf also shared a moment with the former India skipper as he asked for his shirt as the point guard revealed he specifically asked Dhoni to give him his CSK shirt.
“I met MS Dhoni after the game against India in the T20 World Cup last year. I asked him to give me one of his shirts. But I told him that I wanted a CSK shirt and not that of Team India,” Rauf said on “The Grade Cricketer” YouTube channel.
The Pakistani pacer has revealed he received the jersey in Australia.
“He told me that he would surely send me this. I finally got it when I was in Australia,” he added.

The 28-year-old pacer further recalled his conversation with the flamboyantly versatile Hardik Pandya. On India’s Australia tour in 2018-19, Rauf was the visitors’ net bowler as he played against Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. He revealed that Pandya was impressed with him and boosted his confidence with some words of appreciation.
“The manager of the Indian team wanted bowlers at the net who could play against the batters in Australia. I felt it would be a great opportunity for me to bowl with international cricketers. I played against Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli in the nets. Hardik Pandya was playing next to me and he told me that I was fine and he was sure that I would play for the Pakistan team soon,” Rauf said.
