HISTORY | Women’s basketball heads to Scranton for first-ever NCAA tournament
SCRANTON, Pa. — For the first time in program history, the New Jersey City University women’s basketball team is scheduled to compete in the NCAA Division III tournament. The Gothic Knights gathered today, Monday, February 28, in the lobby of the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) to watch the draft live broadcast. It was then announced that the NJCU would travel to the University of Scranton for the first and second rounds of the 2021-22 Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The Gothic Knights will face host Scranton – ranked No. 9 and No. 11 in the most recent national polls by D3hoops.com and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for Division III, respectively – on Friday night March 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the first round. If green and gold prevail over the Lady Royals, they will next face the winner of the SUNY New Paltz vs. Babson College game beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in the second-round contest on Saturday, March 5 at 6:00 p.m.

Jersey City heads to Electric City after their second straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship. The Gothic Knights defeated the College of New Jersey in the first-ever home NJAC title game in program history on Saturday night, February 26. NJCU sat out the NCAA last season after winning the program’s first-ever conference title, as a Division III. has not sponsored a women’s basketball tournament.
