NJAC women’s tennis nets win at NJCU
JERSEY CITY, NJ – The TCNJ women’s tennis team returned from a trip to North Jersey with a victory over NJAC on Saturday, leaving little doubt in an 8-1 win at New Jersey City.
The Lions, who lost a 6-3 decision to nationally ranked Division II Wilmington on Wednesday, remained a perfect 6-0 against Division III opponents this season.
Chase Eisenberg and Alexa Vasile wasted no time in posting an 8-0 shutout of Giada Zorzan and Sara Zorzan on the No. 2 doubles pitch, followed closely by Charlotte Roarty and Jenny Landells with an 8-1 win over Vanshita Malhotra and Mila Gligorov at No.1.
Aira Abalos and Anusha Rangu faced a tough challenge from Eliza Clamor and Brittany Waugh at number 3 in doubles but managed to keep the Gothic Knights duo at arm’s length in an 8-5 result.
Roarty cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Giada Zorzan at No.1 in singles, moments before Abalos secured the league victory on a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Clamor at No.2 .
Vasile beat Malhotra 6-2, 6-4 in the third flight, and Eisenberg was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Sara Zorzan in the fifth single.
Rangu dodged a close Gligorov battle to register a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at No. 4 in singles before Waugh prevented TCNJ’s sweeping attempt with a 7-5, 2-6 victory, 10-3 Morgan Grimmie in an exciting match at No. 6.
The Lions return home on Sunday to take on Division II Kutztown.
