Owners of Carvao BBQ + ITA Open Taco Bar in Jersey City


There’s a new taco restaurant in town. Taco Bar, located at 684 Bergen Avenue, has officially opened in McGinley Square in Jersey City. Small simple à la carte bar, the Taco Bar fits in perfectly with other restaurants in the neighborhood. Read on to find out more about Taco Bar.

Opening calendar

Once a former Chinese take-out restaurant, the space at 684 Bergen Ave has evolved into a place to dine, dine late at night, and have a drink. Owner Steve Papas has already opened the nearby Carvao BBQ and ITA Italian Kitchen hotspots. Carvao BBQ opened in July 2015 and ITA Italian Kitchen opened in February 2020.

After launching its social networks in October to create a buzz, Taco Bar officially opened in November 2021. In December, Taco Bar posted on its Instagram: “We here at Taco Bar would like to thank each of you who have supported us this year. We look forward to serving you many more tacos in 2022! “

About the menu

There is something for everyone at the Taco Bar, including those who are vegans and vegetarians. For appetizers, customers can choose from a selection of crisps and guac, crisps and salsa, esquite (Mexican corn salad), and rice and beans.

The different tacos to choose from include carnitas (slow roasted pork), grilled shrimp, steak, and birria. There is an option of vegan tacos, made with roasted Delicata squash, black beans and pumpkin seeds.

Individual tacos cost less than $ 5 and three tacos cost between $ 11 and $ 12, making this quaint new restaurant an affordable dining option.

A specialty of the Taco bar is the birria ramen, which is Ana’s birria with ramen noodles in consumed with radish, lime, cilantro and onions.

The bar offers specialty cocktails, all at $ 10 or $ 11. Some cocktails include Let’s Taco ‘Bout It, made with Chilean tequila blanco, Cointreau, cucumber water, lime and plain cilantro; Flor De Jamaica made with gin infused with hibiscus, lemon juice, agave syrup and egg white; and Demora made with tequila, lemon, simple syrup, blackberry liqueur and berry marinade. The selection of desserts consists of churros accompanied by a chocolate ganache, the gluten-free dessert Pastel Maya and the Chamoyada (also called Mangonada), which is a mango smoothie made from homemade chamoy, pieces of mango and straw confit with tamarindo… and it’s a must-try. According to its description, it is “sweet, spicy, sour, salty and pungent in one mixed drink.”

Check it out

Taco Bar is now open from 7 p.m. to midnight Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sunday. Guests have the option to dine on site or take out food. Taco Bar is also available on some delivery apps like DoorDash.

This new restaurant joins the growing list of taco and Mexican eateries in Jersey City, including Gringo’s (12 Coles Street), Mocajetes (520 West Side Avenue), Taqueria (236 Grove Street) and Taqueria Gardenias (392 Communipaw Avenue) between others.
