Stoker is tied for second place, men’s golf sits fourth after the first round of the Eastern Atlantic Championship

MALVERN, Pa. – The New Jersey City University men’s golf team played in the first round of the 2022 Eastern Atlantic Conference Championship on Friday, April 22, and the Gothic Knights enjoyed some success on the par 72 course of the White Manor Country Club.

As a team, NJCU shot an overall score of 340 in the first round and sits in fourth place, just five shots behind Marywood University and Neumann University, who are both tied for second after rounds of 335. of Friday.

Individually, first-place Cabrini University’s Dan Murphy shot a 77 on the day to grab the top spot in the standings. For Jersey City, first year standout Evan Stoker (Clinton, NJ/Voorhees) – two-time Atlantic East Golfer of the Week and three-time honor roll pick – shot a plus-7 of 78 and is tied for second place, just one stroke off the lead. Another recruit Tamuda Kaseke (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. John’s College)is tied for 13th after shooting an 85 that day.

Second year Taj Piontkowski (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) shot an 87 that day and is tied for 16th, followed by the senior Zachary Ware (Fort Lee, NJ/Bergen Community College)who is tied for 22nd after Friday’s round of 90. Senior Josh Marseille (Linden, NJ/The Wardlaw+Hartridge School) is 27th after his round of 93.

The first tee times on Saturday April 23 in the second round are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. The first Gothic Knight to start will be Marseille at 12:50 p.m., followed by Ware (1:00 p.m.), Piontkowski (1:10 p.m.), Kaseke (1:20 p.m.) and Stoker, who is part of the final group, which starts at 1:30 p.m.
