New Southampton signing Joe Aribo has described his Super Eagles number 10 shirt as a burden.

The Scotsman reminisced, while recounting his journey to stardom, said in a YouTube video posted on his latest Twitter account.

Having inherited the shirt from the legendary late Muda Lawal, Henry Nwosu, Etim Esin, Austin Okocha, John Obi Mikel and many more, Aribo hinted that he was a work in progress compared to his predecessors.

Pushing it further, the former Rangers midfielder revealed he was under pressure to switch the shirt number on his national team debut in a friendly against Ukraine in September 2019.

Amazingly, he became a rookie goalscorer in the 2-2 draw and then toppled it with a superb goal in his second appearance the following month, a 1-1 friendly draw against former world champions the Brazil to Singapore.

“As for the call from Nigeria, I will never forget the first time I was called up, and it was a crazy feeling.

“And I remember the first game, it was against Ukraine and everyone was sitting in front of a number, and I was given number 10. So even to myself, I’m sitting there thinking . Is this my shirt? Like, I haven’t even put my things down. I was waiting for someone to tell me, yeah, you’re wearing a 10.”
