GH: When/where did you and your partner meet?

KA + GC: We met at a party while attending Stevens Institute of Technology in 2013. Greg saw Kaitlyn playing beer pong across the room and knew he just had to show up. .

GH: Was there an instant connection/chemistry between you two?

KA + GC: There was an instant “friendship” connection from the start. We had a lot of the same groups of friends between athletics and the same civil engineering degree, so we always hung out together at parties or did homework/study together at the library.

GH: How long have you been together?

KA + GC: Greg officially asked Kaitlyn out in July 2015 – he planned a surprise rooftop dinner at 800 Madison Street, where he was living at the time, and served a vodka chicken penne dish that he made from scratch and homemade sangria.

GH: When did you know you were destined to get married?

KA + GC: After the first (of multiple) beer pong tournaments, we won as partners. The first win was at Wicked Wolf in 2017 – we returned home $250 richer and with a massive Yuengling cooler on wheels that we still use to this day when we host.

GH: Tell us about your proposal.

KA + GC: On October 10, 2020, Greg completed a 12-hour marathon engagement. First, he started the day by giving Kaitlyn a scrapbook he made of their history together, then he sent her on a 10-clue scavenger hunt around Hoboken to all their favorite spots over the course of of the last 7 years, then he sent her off on a well-deserved nail date, followed by a hot air balloon ride in Asbury, New Jersey (where he popped the question), and ended by a fun dinner with the two families.

GH: How surprised were you? Did you expect it?

KA + GC: At that point, we had been together for over 5 years and lived together, so I really knew an engagement was coming, however, I didn’t know when or how. The night before the engagement, I had absolutely no idea what the next day held, and throughout the day as the various events unfolded, I certainly had no idea that the actual proposal was going to be a balloon flight!

GH: How long was your engagement?

KA + GC: A little over a year and a half — from 10/10/20 to 05/29/22.

GH: Where did you get married + why this place?

KA + GC: We got married at il Tulipano in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. We knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony onsite with an outdoor cocktail party, and this venue provided a wonderful location for both. Also, the ballroom dance floor was huge, which was a must!

GH: How many people did you have at your wedding?

KA + GC: 150 guests, including more than 25 former Stevens students/teachers.

GH: What was your favorite moment of the day?

KA + GC: For the ceremony, we didn’t want to write/read our own vows, so instead we chose to write each other a letter describing what we love most about each other. The officiant printed these letters and had us read aloud for the first time in front of everyone. It was a great way to share how we feel about each other in the presence of our friends and family.

GH: Have you worked with a wedding planner?

KA + GC: We didn’t work with a wedding planner – we luckily had full-time help from Kaitlyn’s amazing mom (thank goodness!).

GH: Any advice for couples planning a wedding locally or at large?

KA + GC: You must enjoy the process! If you spend all of your time thinking of planning as extra work, it will feel like work. We tried to use wedding planning as an excuse to have fun. If we had to visit the place to understand something, we also planned to have dinner with our parents or do an activity. Every time we completed a task like sending out the invitations, we celebrated with a bottle of wine. Anything that makes the tasks light and fun will improve the experience of the whole process and help to not take anything too seriously.

GH: What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

KA + GC: We love to travel and be active (just got back from our honeymoon in the Maldives where we got SCUBA certification and swam with whale sharks!). We look forward to exploring new places around the world together while enjoying each other’s company. Next year we will also apply and try to participate in the CBS show Fantastic race as newlyweds, fingers crossed.
