UTRGV Athletics set to launch promotional baseball calendar with fireworks

GREAT RIO VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Intercollegiate Athletics Department announced 17 promotional games Tuesday throughout the upcoming baseball season, starting with a fireworks display, presented by the city of Edinburgh, after Friday’s season opener at 7pm against George Washington at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.

There will be several recurring promotions, such as the Cane’s Challenge. Every time the Vaqueros win a home game on Friday, all fans at the stadium will receive coupons to buy one, get a combo of free boxes at Raising Cane on their way out.

Four of UTRGV’s five Tuesday home games will be $2 on Tuesdays, with general admission tickets $2 and select concession items for $2 or less.

Friday, Feb. 18, 7 p.m. vs. George Washington
Opening night

• UTRGV baseball celebrates the start of the 2022 season with a post-match fireworks display, presented by the City of Edinburgh. Fireworks will also be set off after the national anthem.
• Alumni of UTRGV and legacy institutions are invited to come to a mixer beginning at 5 p.m. with music from Ricky J and Desert Bloom.
• The 1971 College World Series team will be honored on the field before the game
• The 2022 Hall of Fame and Hall of Honor induction class will throw the ceremonial first pitches.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day
• Current UTRGV faculty and staff enjoy free entry to both games by showing their employee card at the box office.

•The first 200 fans receive #BeatCorpus t-shirts.

•The first 300 fans in attendance receive rainbow wristbands, courtesy of the UTRGV Office for Advocacy and Violence Prevention (OVAVP).
• OVAVP will host in-game programming to celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion.
• The winners of the Greek week will be honored to throw the ceremonial first pitches.

• Children 13 and under wearing any team jersey or t-shirt will receive a $3 discounted entry.

autism awareness day

• UTRGV Athletics partners with the School of Rehabilitation and Counseling Services to provide education about Autism Spectrum Disorders and available local resources.
• Fans wearing blue can purchase general admission tickets at a reduced price of $3.
